In a significant step towards fostering collaboration in the fields of technology between regions, Opus Solutions organized a strategic trip for prominent Indonesian representatives to Hong Kong. The delegation, led by Opus Solutions CEO Dennis Tedja, included H.E. Mr. Semuel Samson, Former Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, and Gema Sasmita, CEO of PT Sydeco. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between Indonesia and Hong Kong, fostering collaboration in technology, education, and sports. The trip included meetings with Cyberport Hong Kong, Hong Kong Science & Technology Park (HKSTP), and the Indonesian Consul General in Hong Kong.

During their landmark visit to Hong Kong, Indonesian representatives prioritized strengthening ties in technology and innovation, exploring opportunities for collaboration with some of the region’s leading institutions. The delegation visited Cyberport, Hong Kong’s renowned innovation hub, where they engaged in discussions about fostering a more inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Topics included potential joint ventures, talent development initiatives, and cross-border collaborations to enhance Indonesia’s growing economy while integrating with Hong Kong’s advanced infrastructure and technologies. This visit highlighted a shared vision of leveraging technology to drive economic growth and innovation, laying the foundation for future partnerships that align with Indonesia’s aspirations to become a leading digital economy in Southeast Asia.

Science Park Innovation: Hong Kong Science and Technology Park

At HKSTP, the delegation explored one of Asia’s leading research and development hubs. Established in 2001, The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has evolved into a world-class innovation and technology ecosystem that connects stakeholders, nurtures talent, and accelerates innovation. The ecosystem has a impressive 24,000+ working population, 2,000+ technology companies 15,000+ R&D practitioners.

They are a key driver of innovation and technology development in Hong Kong, playing a pivotal role in fostering the city’s transformation into a global hub for cutting-edge innovation. HKSTP is committed to nurturing technology-focused enterprises, startups, and researchers by providing them with world-class infrastructure, resources, and opportunities. The organization also emphasizes talent development through its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education programs, aiming to equip future generations with the skills necessary for the tech-driven economy. The delegation met with representatives from HKSTP exploring the Science Park’s advanced research facilities spanning 22 hectares with specialized laboratories and research centers focusing on biotech, AI, robotics, and smart city technologies. The InnoCell living-learning community designed for innovation and technology talent while the Park’s successful track record in incubating tech startups and facilitating their growth

Cyberport Hong Kong

The delegation’s visit to Cyberport marked a significant exploration of Hong Kong’s digital frontier. Cyberport is a digital technology flagship and incubator wholly owned by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Hosting over 2,000+ of the cities top start-ups and technology companies. Cyberport is establishing Hong Kong’s first large-scale AI Supercomputing Centre (AISC).

The incubator has raised more than HK$41.2 billion in funding, won over 1,600 industry awards, and secured more than 500 intellectual properties. The delegation met with key representatives from Cyberport to discuss potential future collaborations between Indonesia and Hong Kong.

Diplomatic Engagement with Indonesian Consulate

A cornerstone of the visit was the delegation’s meeting with Mr. Yul Edison, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong. The Consulate General, which serves as Indonesia’s primary diplomatic mission in Hong Kong, plays a crucial role in maintaining bilateral relations and supporting the substantial Indonesian community in the region. During the meeting, discussions centered on strengthening economic ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration between Indonesia and Hong Kong, particularly in the technology sectors.

Business Development and Future Prospects

Dennis Tedja, CEO of Opus Solutions, emphasized the strategic importance of the visit: “This comprehensive tour of Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem represents a significant step in strengthening technological and economic ties between Indonesia and Hong Kong.” 

Mr. Gema Sasmita, representing both KORMI and KADIN, highlighted the potential impact on Indonesia’s sports and youth development: “The technological infrastructure and innovation ecosystems we’ve witnessed in Hong Kong provide excellent models for developing similar initiatives in Indonesia, particularly in the intersection of sports and technology.”
