Opus Solutions joined the engineering alumni of Universitas Riau (UNRI) in Pekanbaru on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. The UNRI Engineering Alumni Association (IKA Teknik UNRI) was installing its 2026 to 2030 board under its new chair, Zulhendri, and the board set out a clear agenda: build a database of every engineering graduate and turn the alumni network into a bridge from campus to employment.
The ceremony at Hotel Alpha Pekanbaru also installed the alumni boards of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and the Architecture Department. Its theme was “Green Digital Industry and Riau Engineers on the Global Stage”. It brought together alumni, faculty leaders, lecturers and students, regional companies including PT Sarana Pembangunan Riau, PT Sarana Pembangunan Pekanbaru, PT PIR and Jamkrida Riau, and an Opus Solutions delegation led by Dennis Tedja, Chairman of Opus Solutions and Global Ambassador (Indonesia) of Cyberport Hong Kong.
A database to connect every engineering graduate
Zulhendri named the first priority: gathering a widely spread alumni network into a single database that records where each graduate works, from government and legislatures to companies across Indonesia and overseas. With it, students and new graduates could find senior alumni in their field and reach out to work together.
“We want IKA Teknik UNRI to be not just an alumni organization, but a professional network that delivers real benefits,” he said.
The chair of the UNRI-wide alumni association (IKA UNRI), Wan Muhammad Hasim, backed the plan. He proposed linking it with the university’s own alumni database, so that every UNRI graduate, faculty by faculty, sits in one place.
A bridge from campus to careers
The second priority is employment. IKA Teknik aims to connect companies with the Faculty of Engineering for work placements, scholarships and jobs. Its alumni already work in construction, energy, plantations, manufacturing, technology and government.
Wan Muhammad Hasim pointed to the Opus delegation as an example of what that bridge can bring.
“As we can see today, representatives of a foreign company from Hong Kong Cyberport are here. We hope this company can also draw on the expertise of graduates from our university,” he said.
Zulhendri said he hoped international companies taking part would open new opportunities for young people from the region, particularly engineering graduates. The Dean of Engineering, Prof. Ahmad Fadli, added that alumni are vital to opening partnerships with companies: where alumni are present, partnerships come together quickly.
Opus Solutions’ role
The agenda matches what Opus Solutions does across the region: bringing AI to traditional sectors and bridging technology firms with Indonesian institutions. Opus will explore ways to connect UNRI engineering talent with its network of more than 200 technology firms and the Cyberport Hong Kong ecosystem, from internships to project roles. It will also offer its AI and data expertise as the alumni database takes shape.
The visit builds on Dennis Tedja’s role as Cyberport’s Global Ambassador for Indonesia, linking Indonesian universities with Hong Kong’s technology community. It follows Opus’s collaborations with Telkom University’s Bandung Techno Park and Universitas Pattimura.
IKA UNRI’s next steps include a national working meeting of its boards on campus in November and the continued growth of its alumni-funded scholarships.
